St. James and St. Philip Catholic Churches are two clustered parishes located along the historic Great River Road in St. James civil parish. St. James is located on the site of the first Acadian settlers who traveled from Nova Scotia along the Mississippi River arriving in Louisiana. St. Philip is located near the former settlement known as St. Patrick which later became the unincorporated township of Vacherie. Both Churches sit peacefully across from the Mississippi River.
